Dog food detour leads to $900,000 prize!

A Hamilton Hill couple can thank a change in routine for their $909,000 Saturday Lotto Division 1 prize.

The couple in their 40’s said they play Saturday Lotto most weeks, however, a trip to the shops for dog food led them to buying a ticket from Phoenix Lotteries, which isn’t their usual retailer.

“I usually check my ticket at work, but this time I was on the couch with my partner when I decided to check the ticket,” the winner said.

“After reading the fourth number, I then realised I had the other two numbers and I excitedly called out to my partner.”

“Honey? Honey? Honey!”

Lotterywest spokesperson James Mooney said the win was one of the four Division 1 prizes from Saturday's first draw for 2023. 

“WA winners are never short of a story and I’m sure this couple are happy they decided to buy some dog food at the right time,” he said.
