A Bright Future

Nestled in a maze of retail outlets sits a warehouse a passer-by wouldn’t look twice at, but behind its understated façade is an impressive organisation helping the young people of Perth. For more than three decades Youth Futures has been providing young people with access to professional services that enhance their wellbeing.

Thanks to Lotterywest support, Youth Futures has transformed a Heathridge warehouse into a hub of opportunity.

“Our ultimate aim is to help young people form part of society and be accepted and celebrated as members of the community,” Youth Futures CEO Mark Waite said.

“We’ve always said young people, regardless of their situation or circumstance, should be entitled to great facilities, great resources, and great staff.”

Youth Futures follows the mantra that mainstream school isn’t for everyone and every path to success is unique.

The organisation offers a flexible environment for young people to complete their studies, taking a tailored approach to individual needs.

A Lotterywest grant of more than $300,000 has delivered a kitchen, music equipment, indoor and outdoor activity spaces, and computer and counselling rooms.

“It’s a place where young people can gain an education, learn and get back on track, but it is also about giving them opportunities to socialise and all of those soft skills that we value so much in the community,” Mr Waite said.

“Without the support of Lotterywest we wouldn’t have been able to do this.”
