An engineering student in his late 20s is now a millionaire thanks to winning Division One in Monday’s Millionaire Medley draw.
The university student purchased the ticket from Riverton Forum Lottery Kiosk and became Western Australia’s second Millionaire Medley Division One winner so far this month.
When visiting Lotterywest HQ to claim his prize this week, the winner said he had only been playing Lotto for around six months.
“My heart was beating out of my chest when I realised, I had won,” he said.
“I’ll be paying all my uni fees upfront and I’m taking my girlfriend out for a chicken dinner to celebrate.”
Being a System 7 ticket, which costs less than $15, the winner took home an additional $3,250.50 on top of his $1 million Division One prize.
Lotterywest spokesperson Zoe Wender said as System tickets cover multiple combinations of similar numbers, winning a Systems entry will usually pay multiple prizes.
“Buying a System ticket allows you to choose fewer or more numbers than are drawn, generating every possible combination for your chosen numbers,” she said.
“If you’re interested in knowing more about System tickets, I’d recommend heading to your local retailer who can help you find a ticket that suits your play type and budget.”
This win is WA’s second Millionaire Medley win of the month, hot on the heels of a winning ticket sold from Australind News & Post just two weeks ago.
Thanks to WA players and retailers, Lotterywest supports community groups across the State through its grants program.
A Lotterywest grant of $27,120 is supporting Teach Learn Grow Inc to improve educational outcomes of vulnerable students in regional and remote communities.
The next chance for WA players to win is in tonight’s $4 million Powerball jackpot.
Tickets are available until 6pm on draw day in-store, online and via the Lotterywest App.
