Spur of the moment Slikpik turns into $1 million

A semi-retired Yokine local is celebrating a $1 million Millionaire Medley win after purchasing a Slikpik for the first time.

The winner usually plays his long-standing favourite numbers, but unexpectedly decided to purchase a Slikpik, which turned into a $1 million Division One win.

The Yokine man said he purchased the Slikpik from Flinders Square Lucky Lotto in Yokine, and returned the following morning to check the ticket.

“I always play with my favourite numbers, but for no reason at all I thought I’d get a Slikpik for the first time,” he said.

“I saw the sign saying ‘Division One win sold here’ when I went into the store to scan my ticket and thought nothing of it.

“When the machine said I was a winner, I showed the owner and he discreetly pointed to the sign with a smile on his face.

“I couldn’t believe it.”

The winner who is semi-retired will now be able to fully retire and enjoy more time on the golf course, in addition to helping his son, nieces and nephews.

A fly-in-fly-out (FIFO) worker from Perth’s Eastern suburbs also won a $1 million prize in the same Millionaire Medley draw.

Thanks to this life-changing prize, the winner can find work closer to home to spend more time with his family.

Lotterywest spokesperson Zoe Wender said WA celebrated a total of five Division One wins last weekend, taking this year’s Division One tally to 40 winners who have shared more than $75 million in prizes.

“It’s wonderful meeting these winners and hearing how their lives will change for the better,” she said.

All available profits from every Lotto ticket purchased contribute to Lotterywest’s grants program, which supports community groups across the State.

A Lotterywest grant of $973,964 is supporting the Australian Childhood Foundation with projects to improve long-term outcomes and strengthen life skills for disadvantaged, at-risk youth across WA.

Tickets are available for tonight’s $12 million Powerball jackpot until 6pm today in-store, online and via the Lotterywest App.
