Powerball’s $80 million jackpot – here’s what you need to know

This week’s $80 million Powerball jackpot offers Western Australian players the chance to win a life-changing prize.

It’s been more than three years since Powerball offered an $80 million prize, the last time was in May 2022.

Thursday night’s $80 million jackpot is the second largest Powerball prize offered this year, with only one bigger jackpot offered, which was a $100 million prize in June this year.

Lotterywest spokesperson Zoe Wender said Powerball holds the record for the State’s largest win, which has stood since December 2021, when a group of 55 women from a northern suburbs’ gym shared an $80 million prize.

“We could see history repeat itself this week if a WA player takes out the entire $80 million jackpot,” she said.

“WA’s two most recent Powerball wins were both shared by groups of players, which we hope is the case with tomorrow night’s jackpot.

“When we see jackpots reach these heights, a syndicate is a fantastic way to share the cost of a ticket and possibly the joy of a win.

“Ask your local retailer for help setting up a syndicate with your family, friends or colleagues. If you don’t have a group to play with, you can join a syndicate that’s already been set up.”

One in four Australian adults are expected to have an entry in tomorrow’s Powerball draw. Thursday afternoon between 4pm and 5pm is expected to be the busiest period for ticket sales in WA, with around 600 tickets sold each minute.

Thanks to WA players and retailers, more than $12 million has been raised so far for Lotterywest’s grants program from Powerball’s six-week jackpot run.
