From sharing meals to sharing a $1 million Lotto win

A group of eight Perth friends are celebrating a $1 million Saturday Lotto prize after playing Lotto together as a group for just six months.

The group became close through a ‘Come Dine with Me’ style competition, and six months ago started contributing money into a kitty to play Lotto together.

When visiting Lotterywest HQ to claim their prize, one winner explained that two members of the group had been friends for more than 20 years, and the group had grown to eight following a few dinner parties.

“Since the Come Dine with Me dinner parties, the group has grown and we’ve been playing Lotto together,” the winner said.

“We won $900 in Powerball a few weeks ago which we were thrilled about, but this win is even more incredible.”

The group will split the prize evenly, taking home around $130,000 each. While celebrating together in the Lotterywest winner’s room, the group discussed holidays, wedding planning, new cars and renovations.

“Our blinds broke a few months ago and we’ve been blocking out the sun with baking paper,” one of the winners said.

“Baking paper on your windows is surprisingly effective, but we will definitely be getting some new blinds now.”

Lotterywest spokesperson Zoe Wender said all eyes now turn towards this week’s $80 million Powerball jackpot.

“When we see jackpots reach these heights, it’s a great opportunity to get together a group of friends, family or workmates to share the cost of a ticket and possibly the joy of a win,” she said.

“These friends were able to share this incredible life-changing moment together, I’m sure they’ll be reminiscing about it at dinner parties for many years to come.”

Thanks to Western Australian players and retailers, Lotterywest supports communities across the State through its grants program.

A Lotterywest grant of $200,000 is supporting Zonta House Refuge Association Inc. to provide crisis and emergency relief for vulnerable people experiencing family and domestic violence in the Perth metropolitan area.

Tickets for this week’s $80 million Powerball jackpot are available until 6pm on Thursday in-store, online, or via the Lotterywest App.
