“Forgetful” Lotto player becomes WA’s latest millionaire

A southern suburbs man, who forgot he bought a ticket to Saturday’s $5 million Lotto draw, got a welcome surprise when he checked his phone late that evening to find out he’s WA’s latest millionaire.

The winning ticket, worth more than $2.6 million, was one of two across the country and purchased online.

“I buy a Lotto ticket every now and then and for some reason I bought one for Saturday’s draw,” he said.

“I actually forgot I had a ticket and was just about to go to sleep late on Saturday night when I remembered and checked the app.”

The win comes three days after WA scored a Division One ticket in Wednesday Lotto on 21 September bought online and worth $1 million.

Lotterywest spokesperson Alana Christian said this year’s winning tally is in good stead to break last year’s record.

“These wins have taken WA’s 2022 winning tally to 57, almost 10 per cent higher than 2021’s tally this time last year,” she said.

The next chance to win big this week is tonight’s $30 million OZ Lotto jackpot and Thursday’s $20 million Powerball.

Tickets are available until 6pm on draw day in-store, online or via the app.
