Traffic-stopping win as player quits job

A Perth traffic controller has decided to quit his job after winning a share of Saturday Lotto’s Division One prize.

The Slikpik 18 worth $875,660 was one of six from around the nation and was sold from Hampton Rd Lottery Centre & News in South Fremantle.

The man, who hails from Butler in Perth’s northern suburbs, was at work in Fremantle and said he always bought Lotto tickets from the closest Lotterywest retailer.

“I told my colleagues that I was off on my break to buy a Lotto ticket so I could quit my job,” he said.

“I always feel lucky . . . I’ve been playing for 22 years and have won bits and pieces over that time, but this is seriously life changing.

“I’ll quit my job for now, and I’m not sure if I’ll go back, but the first thing I’m going to do is buy a mustang and drive to Queensland to see my brother.”

The man, in his early 60s, said he celebrated with a humble cup of two-minute noodles, as he was feeling “quite numb” after the win and it “hadn’t quite sunk in”.

Lotterywest spokesperson Alana Christian said it was always heart-warming to hear WA winners tell their stories, especially when they planned to share it with loved ones, but also to hear about how they planned to spoil themselves after a win.

This week players have the chance to take home an eye-watering $50 million with tonight's Powerball jackpot.

Tickets are available in-store, online and via the app until 6pm on the day of the draw.
