Saturday syndicate players find that sharing is a winning strategy

Ahead of the record-breaking $110 million Powerball draw tomorrow players across Western Australia are looking for hot tips on how to increase their chances of winning.

Ten players from Noranda and Bull Creek have a three-word tip: systems and syndicates.

They each bought a share in The Lucky Charm Bull Creek and Noranda syndicate for a Systems 13 entry and were rewarded with a $1.5 million portion in last Saturday’s $20 million Superdraw.

One player, who pocketed more than $152,000 said he would be continuing the winning strategy for Powerball on Thursday.

“We will definitely be buying another syndicate share for Powerball this week,” he said.

“I have been playing Lotto for about 30 years and we usually buy tickets with our staff.

“A few years ago one of the staff members said we should put the money into a share in a syndicate, because even though you will be sharing, your chances of winning are much greater, and I have been buying syndicate shares ever since.”

A Systems entry allows players to play up to 20 of their selected numbers and every possible combination of those numbers, greatly increasing the number of entries and payouts on lower divisions in the event of a win.

On Saturday Lotto, a Systems 13 entry is the equivalent of 1716 games. It is a more expensive ticket which is why sharing the cost is a good option.

The owner of The Lucky Charm stores in Bull Creek and Noranda, Theo Popis, said syndicates were all about sharing the joy.

“We’ve had winners come in all week with flowers and bottles of wine,” Theo said.

“They are all so happy and grateful – it is fantastic to see.”

Lotterywest spokesperson Jennie Fitzhardinge said a share in a syndicate is a great way to get involved in a record breaking week.

“Syndicates are a way to boost your odds of winning, without having to break the budget,” Ms Fitzhardinge said.

“With Powerball jackpotting to a mind-boggling $110 million, there really is plenty to go around.

“This is the first time $110 million has been on offer and this jackpot run alone will see an estimated $30 million go back to the WA community.”

Since 2007, Powerball has raised about $536 million for the WA community.
