Saturday Lotto win is no Joke for Claremont couple

A Claremont couple’s running joke for the last 20 years has turned into reality, thanks to their $1.3 million Saturday Lotto win.

At the start of the working week, the couple would ask the same question about their Saturday Lotto ticket. “Each Monday I would jokingly ask ‘do we have to go to work?’ the winner said.

“Each time the answer has been yes, until today.

“It’s amazing, it’s liberating, we work long hours so the chance to ease up is great.”

The couple bought their ticket from Lotterywest Play Online and plan to use the winnings to pay off their mortgage, travel Australia and support charities close to their heart.

This was followed by more good news for WA, with a ticket from Wagin Newsagency now worth $1 million thanks to last night's Monday Lotto draw. Lotterywest spokesperson James Mooney said fingers are crossed the weekend win was the start of an exciting week for WA players.

“Now that Powerball has jackpotted to $60 million, we would love for another West Aussie to celebrate what would be our biggest win for the year,” he said.

“WA’s last Powerball win was in March, when a Swan Valley family discovered their incredible $40 million win after initially forgetting they had purchased a ticket in the draw.

“It’s always exciting when jackpots start to reach these heights and it would be great to see another WA syndicate share in a Powerball Division One prize.”

Tickets for Thursday’s $60 million Powerball draw are available in-store, online and via the App before 6pm Thursday.
