A Peel woman in her 60s visited Lotterywest HQ to claim her $20 million Division One Powerball prize, sharing her plans for a simple life with a big garden.
The woman’s life-changing win was thanks to a Slikpik 18 purchased from Newsxpress Halls Head after a busy day of shopping.
After loading heavy bags into her car, the woman was in the driver’s seat ready to head home when she remembered she’d planned to buy a Powerball ticket.
She nearly didn’t bother going back - but changed her mind at the last moment.
The winner checked her ticket after the draw and was in disbelief that she had all seven numbers and the Powerball.
The woman said it wasn’t until she phoned Lotterywest the following day to validate her ticket that the news started to sink in.
“I kept waking up in the night thinking I had dreamt it, checked my numbers again and went through the same disbelief. My eyes were blurry from staring at the ticket so much,” the winner said.
“I can finally purchase my own home for the first time in my life.
“I’ve always dreamt of having a house with a big garden, loads of fruit trees, a veggie patch, and chooks!”
Along with the simple joy of a tree-filled garden, the winner will treat herself to a massage chair and plans to share the prize with her favourite charities.
“Over the years I’ve done lots of volunteering and fostering for dogs’ refuges around Western Australia,” the winner said.
“Now with this prize I can make a real difference.”
Lotterywest spokesperson Zoe Wender said the six-week jackpot run that resulted in this $20 million Powerball win raised more than $15 million for WA community groups.
“It’s wonderful to hear that this player can support some causes close to her heart with her prize money, just as Lotterywest supports hundreds of initiatives across the State each year,” she said.
“Just like a Lotterywest grant of $1.2 million supporting the Dogs’ Refuge Home WA who care for and rehome hundreds of dogs that come through their doors each year.”
This weekend a Saturday Lotto special event is offering WA players the chance to share in a $10 million prize.
Tickets are available until 6pm on Saturday in-store, online or via the Lotterywest App.
