Hard-working City of Swan couple claim Saturday Lotto win

Western Australia is on a winning streak with another Division One take home, this time worth $993,091 in the weekend’s Saturday Lotto draw.

The State’s 41st Division One winner has been revealed as a married couple from the City of Swan whose two small businesses keep them working fifteen hours a day, six days a week.

The hard-working couple said they haven’t gone on a holiday together for decades, unable to afford both being away from their businesses.

“After we pay off some debt and share some money with family, we may be able to sneak away for a weekend somewhere in Australia,” they said.

The wife has been playing Lotto regularly and said she’d always had some small wins along the way but had her fingers crossed for a big prize one day.

“You have to have hope or what’s the point in playing?!” she said.

They were alerted to check their ticket when a friend said there was a Lotto winner in the area.

“I had nothing else in my wallet but the Lotto ticket,” said the husband.

“When my friends took it to check the numbers and told me it was the winner, I thought it was just another joke.

“It only now seems a reality sitting here in the Winners Room!”

Despite the thrill of the win, the couple said it won’t change who they are.

“It’s a nice feeling, but we are the same people whether we have $1 or $100 in our wallets,” said the husband.

The winning ticket was purchased at The Lucky Charm News Noranda, this latest win making it their third Division One winner in just four years.

Lotterywest spokesperson Pina Compagnone said October was set to be a lucky Lotto month for Western Australia with the State already taking home four Division One wins so far this month.

“Our 41 Division One winners in 2018 have already shared in $92 million, so here’s hoping we crack the $100 million mark before the end of the week,” she said.

Western Australian players have more chances to win big in tomorrow night’s $5 million OZ Lotto jackpot, before a $20 million Powerball jackpot goes up for grabs on Thursday.

Tickets are available until 6pm jackpot day from Lotterywest in-store, online or via the app.
