Sam has seen all the secrets of the winners’ room

Lotterywest’s Customer Engagement Officer Sam Clark says he has a role that brings people to tears.

“I make people cry for a living,” he said.

Before you judge him, Sam’s the man who brings the reality to the dream, armed with all the information that Lotterywest’s Division One and 1st Prize winners need to know when claiming their prizes.

“My role is all about paying the prizes,” Mr Clark said.

“There are lots of tears in the winners’ room because so often it’s a life changing event.

“It’s kind of the moment where it starts to become real. The other time is 14 days later when the money hits their bank account.”

During his time at Lotterywest, Sam has seen a range of winners come through its doors, and at times has had to reassure winners they have, in fact, won.

“There are people that do a quick check around the room to make sure there are no hidden cameras, believing that their family and friends have set them up,” he said.

“It’s a lot of fun to meet people and it’s an important responsibility because as far as confidentiality is concerned, what’s said in the room stays in the room.”

Lotterywest is unique – it remains the only lottery in Australia which is State Government owned and operated with a majority of money spent on tickets going back to the people of WA through prizes and grants.

Tonight's $50 million OZ Lotto jackpot could be your next chance to meet Sam in the winner's room! Get your tickets before 6pm.
