HR win for Lotterywest

Lotterywest’s Senior Manager People and Culture Matthew Hammond knows a thing or two about people.

Recently named Human Resources Management Practitioner of the Year at the Institute of Public Administration Australia Western Australian Awards held on Friday 31 May 2019, he said the real value of human resources was working with organisations to solve problems and add value.

“Every day as I drive to work I ask myself how can I be the best I can be at work and how I can help,” Mr Hammond said.

Leading the People and Culture Team at Lotterywest, Mr Hammond managed to claim the award which was open to Local, State and Federal Government as well as the Not-for-Profit and Academic sectors.

“What our team does is a two-way thing, with the organisation getting what it needs to succeed in achieving its objectives, and individuals getting what they need from a professional development perspective, helping them to stay committed, fresh and current,” he said.

“For the size of our organisation we have a comprehensive learning and development program, as well as a wellness program which contributes so much to a healthy workplace culture.”

Lotterywest CEO Susan Hunt PSM said she was pleased to see recognition towards the People and Culture team.

“Matthew has strong commitment to equity, to people and to fairness,” Ms Hunt said.

“He is committed to an agile workforce that embraces ongoing reform and the creation of efficiencies and public value.

“On behalf of all the staff at Lotterywest and Healthway I’d like to congratulate Matthew on this wonderful achievement.”
