Computer says “Yes!”

Gone are the days of the IT department stereotype being based in a dark basement boredly asking staff to turn their computers on and off.

In fact, comparing the typecast to Lotterywest’s and Healthway’s IT Service desk would be a polar opposite, and not just because they have penthouse position on the top floor of the Lotterywest building. The approachable team is always on hand to support staff with a balance of day-to-day IT troubles and complicated system issues required at Lotterywest.

“No day is ever the same. There are different queries every day, different people running up to you,” IS Support Service Officer Brendan Falk said.

“It’s all about communication, making sure what you say can be understood by the other person so the problem can be solved.”

The computer whiz said Lotterywest’s and Healthway’s purpose was to build a better WA together and was proud his role helped fellow staff reach this goal.

“I love my job, the people and the work Lotterywest does and I feel I am part of that helping chain,” he said.

“My role is about helping people overcome their fear of technology and to take the chance. If it breaks, it breaks and we will fix it.”

The 26- year old said he developed a passion for IT when he was just four years old, having shadowed his uncle who had a successful career in IT.

“I couldn’t wait to get through primary, high school and university so I could say I was a computer tech,” he said.

“It’s all I’ve ever wanted to do.”
