Wheatbelt man celebrates $60,000 win

A retiree from WA’s Wheatbelt region has 60,000 reasons to celebrate after being gifted a $5 Cashed up for a Year Scratch’n’Win ticket bought from City News Kalgoorlie.

The winner will be paid $5000 a month for the next 12 months, a total prize worth $60,000.

The man said that he thought he’d only won $60 when he checked his ticket and was sceptical when the owner of his local store told him he had to collect the prize from Lotterywest Head Office.

“I asked him, “why do I have to go there for $60?”,” the winner said.

“Then I looked at the prize amount again properly and saw all of the zeroes. I couldn’t believe it!”

The man said he was looking forward to doing some renovations around the house and sharing his good fortune with his family.

“While it’s always wonderful when WA players win significant prizes, it becomes very special when we hear that the prize is going to positively impact a number of people – not just the prize winner,” Lotterywest spokesperson Hermione Coleman said.

With this weekend’s $20 million Saturday Lotto Superdraw approaching it’s the perfect time to start a syndicate with friends, family or work colleagues.
