Truckie collects $2 million Lotto win

A truck driver has handed in his notice after 40 years of service, thanks to Saturday Lotto.

The couple in their 60’s, can be revealed as the owners of the $2 million Division One ticket produced in a draw held more than two weeks ago.

The winning ticket was sold from Newpark Lottery Centre and News in Girrawheen.

The truckie’s weekly routine is to check his Saturday Lotto ticket on the weekend, and it was during his most recent visit he discovered his fortune.

“They told me I had won $2 million and I thought I was good, but then broke down five seconds later,” he said.

“I’ve given my notice.”

The couple admitted they'd been aware a Division One prize had been sold at the store, but didn’t get around to checking the ticket until the weekend.

“I had been looking at the winner's banner in the store all week.”

Lotterywest spokesperson Sam Clark said it was fantastic to see how the win had changed the couple’s life.

“Their son was in the Winner’s Room with the couple and he was so happy to see his father celebrate the life changing win after working so hard for more than 40 years,” Mr Clark said.

“This year we have celebrated 49 Division One winner’s across our State and we would love to see this number continue to grow.”

When you play Lotterywest games, you’re also supporting the WA community.

Earlier this year, the Miya Kaadadjiny (Learning Sanctuary) Community Centre received a Lotterywest grant of almost $100,000 for renovations to the centre, which supports the learning and sharing of Aboriginal cultural activities.
