Lotterywest and Healthway in good shape

The Healthier Workplace WA Program has recognised Lotterywest and Healthway as a Silver Healthy Workplace for demonstrating a commitment to workplace health and wellbeing for all staff in their Subiaco office.

The co-located organisations have invested in improving the long-term physical and mental health of staff through their Wellness Program, which has been running for more than two years. Manager of Healthier Workplace WA at Cancer Council WA, Melissa Treby, said the benefits of a dedicated health program were significant in helping employees achieve a healthy lifestyle both at home and work, which can reduce the incidence of many health conditions, including cancer.

“Along with the health gains, short-to-medium term outcomes of a workplace health program include improved staff morale and engagement, team cohesiveness and increased individual work performance and productivity,” Ms Treby said.

Lotterywest and Healthway CEO Susan Hunt PSM, said ensuring staff were able to come into a healthy and supportive workplace each day was a priority.
“We are very proud of this recognition,” Ms Hunt said.

“We’re committed to enabling our staff to succeed and one way to do that is by fostering a health and wellness focused, inclusive workplace.”

The program is run in consultation with staff by assessing employee feedback, awareness and participation.

In addition, the organisation’s bi-annual staff engagement survey also captures feedback on the Wellness Program. “Happy and healthy employees are proven to be more engaged and therefore are more productive in the work we do for the WA community,” Ms Hunt said.

Lotterywest and Healthway received the Silver recognition for the following achievements:

  •  Staff education and awareness-raising presentations facilitated by health experts
  • Subsidised staff fitness activities including yoga classes, tennis and volleyball
  • Sit-stand work stations for all staff
  • End-of-trip facilities including showers, change rooms, lockers and bike racks, enabling staff to participate in physical activities before, during or after work
  • Corporate smart riders encouraging staff to actively commute to work appointments
  • Individual health assessments, including annual flu vaccinations and skin checks.

Lotterywest and Healthway are committing to refresh their Wellness Program each year to ensure it meets the need of the organisations and its employees. This will include increasing the activities of the Program in an effort to reach Gold status.
