Excited Powerball winners jet into Lotterywest HQ

Excited WA winners have started coming in to Lotterywest HQ following last night’s historic Powerball draw.

Thursday’s $120 million jackpot, the second biggest jackpot in Australian history, was shared between two winners with the Division One ticket worth over $63 million.

A retail syndicate from Kalgoorlie shared the Division One prize with a winning ticket from NSW.

Whilst the winners are starting to come forward, Lotterywest believes there are around 200 tickets to be verified.

One of the winners, a school worker and Mum, had already walked her dog, chatted with a neighbour and been to the newsagents before she jumped on a flight to be in the Lotterywest office before 11am.

“I’ve been living pay-check to pay-check” she said.

“Now I can help out my kids and some friends, and I’m also going to fill up my neighbour’s car with petrol so she can get to Perth to cash in her ticket.”

A couple who had set off from Kal at 6am for the drive to Perth said their win had taken a huge weight of their shoulders.

“We’re building a house, so this will be a huge help with paying for that,” the business owner said.

“We also want to pay it forward and help a few local people as well.”

Lotterywest CEO, Ralph Addis said this is an exceptional situation with so many winners in the syndicate.

“It’s fantastic to see so many people share in this win,” Mr Addis said.

“Coming off the back of an $80 million syndicate win in December, this just adds to WA’s amazing winning streak.”

This is the biggest win for WA this year and the 5th highest lottery win ever in Australia.

More than 685,000 Western Australians shared in prize money across the other divisions last night.

Over the past seven weeks of Powerball’s jackpot roll, over $25 million has been raised for the WA community thanks to local players buying tickets.

The next chance for WA players to win big is Saturday Lotto’s $10 million Special Event draw on 26 February.

Tickets are available up until 6pm on Thursday evening and can be bought in-store, online or via the app.
