Disability worker claims $1.9 million ticket

A Western Australian couple have claimed the $1.9 Division One Saturday Lotto prize pool from 29 January.

The southern suburbs couple have seen first-hand the community benefit to playing Lotto, having worked in disability services for over 20 years.

“We know people who have benefitted from Lotterywest grants,” they said.

“Playing Lotto is both a gift and a reward.

“We’ve been playing the same numbers for 22 years and we were thinking of retiring the numbers at the start of the year because we hadn’t had much success, we are so glad we didn’t.”

The couple, who are approaching retirement said the win has come at the perfect time to set them up for the rest of their lives.

A Midland man has claimed last Wednesday’s $1 million Division One prize, it was one of three winners nationally.

Funds raised by playing Lotto go back into the WA community through the Lotterywest grants program, such as the $96,441 grant towards a Digital Diversity Project to improve digital literacy among people with disabilities in Midland and Lancelin.

Lotterywest spokesperson Nikki Brown said it’s an exciting week to be playing lotto with a very high jackpot and Superdraw coming up.

“Thursday night’s Powerball has jackpotted to a huge $60 million and to back it up we have a $20 million Superdraw on Saturday, there’s plenty of chances for WA players to win big,” she said.

Tickets for the $60 million Powerball are available until 6pm on Thursday via Lotterywest in-store, online and via the app.
