After 30 years of playing the same numbers one Carramar couple can now celebrate, coming forward as the first Division One winner of 2020.
Their ticket, from NewsXpress Carramar, is worth $1 million, starting their new year in spectacular fashion.
“I’ve been playing the same numbers for 30 years, we have had a couple of smaller wins here and there, but never anything like this,” the winner said.
“I’ve said to myself that every time you don’t win, that’s one less chance of not losing the next time.
“I was watching the news and saw the numbers on the screen come up and thought to myself, "my gosh, I’ve got the lot"."
The tradesmen said he will take some time to decide on what to do with his winnings, but did have one practical idea.
“We really need a new couch,” he said.
Lotterywest spokesperson Hermione Coleman said this was a great start to the year and hopefully a sign that 2020 was going to be fruitful for more WA players.
“We finished 2019 with 59 Division One winners, so we would love to surpass this total in 2020,” Ms Coleman said.
“We have seen players take out a Division One prize after playing for a couple of months, to our most recent winner who stuck with it for 30 years.
“At the end of the day, you have to be in it to win it, and if your numbers don’t match up then you’re still supporting hundreds of not-for-profit WA organisations.”
