Ticket mix up leads to hump day million

An Albany couple’s accidental ticket buy has turned into a Wednesday Lotto million dollar win.

The couple in their 40’s each bought a Saturday Lotto ticket, without the other one being aware, which meant two trips to their local newsagent.

“I discovered my partner had also bought a Saturday Lotto ticket, so I thought I better go check it,” she said.

“That was on Wednesday, so I decided I might as well buy a Wednesday Lotto ticket while I was there.

“I don’t usually play Wednesday Lotto.”

That decision turned into the $1 million ticket sold at Plaza Lotteries in Albany.

The winner discovered her fortune after over hearing a conversation about Albany being home to the winning ticket.

Lotterywest spokesperson Hermione Coleman said the win was the State’s 18th Division One winner for 2019.

“April has been an incredibly lucky month for Wednesday Lotto players, with two winners in the first two weeks,” she said.

“There are plenty of chances for WA players to win big, starting with this Saturday Lotto’s draw.

“Anticipation is also building for next week with OZ Lotto jackpotting to $10 million and Powerball to $12 million.

Thanks to Lotterywest players, more than $345,000 in grants has supported Albany in the past year – including a $109,100 grant to the Great Southern Centre for Outdoor Recreation Excellence Limited.
