Sharing is caring: Guildford friends split Megadraw winnings

Two lifelong friends are Western Australia’s last Megadraw winners to come forward to collect their $1.42 million prize.

The Guildford duo, who’ve been best mates for more than 30 years, had made a pact that if they ever won big on Lotto they’d split the winnings.

“I’d bought this ticket as a Christmas gift for my mate on the condition that if we won we went 50/50,” the woman laughed.

“Believe it or not – only a few weeks prior I’d had a crystal clear dream that we were going to win Lotto!” she added.

The best friends purchased the winning ticket from Helena Estate Pharmacy & News.

With the money now divvied up, all they have left to do now is figure out how to spend their half of the winnings.

“For me it’s all about helping the grandkids – we can now put them through private school and basically set them up for life,” the man said.

For the other friend, the money will help her get out of her least favourite chore.

“My dishwasher needs to be replaced,” she said.

“It’s not even washing the dishes anymore – and I’m not going to do it,” she laughed.

Last weekend’s Megadraw saw five Division 1 Lotto winners each scoop up $1.4 million and over 311,000 other lucky locals pick up a prize across other Divisions.

Lotterywest spokeswoman Pina Compagnone said Lotto jackpots are only getting bigger in 2018 – with another $35 million jackpot on offer tonight.

The jackpot is the result of no-one across the nation matching the Powerball and the six winning numbers for the past six weeks.

“Fingers crossed we’ll be welcoming WA’s first big winners for 2018 into our Winners Room after tonight,” Ms Compagnone said.

Tickets are available until 6pm tonight from Lotterywest in-store, online or through the app.

When you play Lotterywest games, the money stays in WA. Over the Powerball jackpot roll, almost $4 million has been raised to support the WA community – and tonight’s draw is set to raise a further $2 million.
