Roleystone man turns $6.60 into $5 million ‘on the fly

A Roleystone man has come forward to claim one of Tuesday’s two winning OZ Lotto tickets.

The man bought the ticket, now worth $5 million, through his online membership with previous winnings from other games.

In his 30s, he said he only bought Lotto tickets when there was a big jackpot.

“There was a big Saturday Lotto game and a Powerball jackpot and OZ Lotto was the last one and I had $6.60 left to spend so just bought a five-line game on the fly,” he said.

“I was feeling lucky because we’re expecting our first child and I was starting a new job.”

He said he planned to buy a new car and a block of land down south to build.

“I’ll also go back to study, since I can now pay off my HECS debt, and pay that one in cash . . . I’ll also be taking super extended paternity leave.”

Lotterywest is still waiting for WA’s second Division One OZ Lotto winner to come forward, which was bought from Beeliar Village Newspower.

Lotterywest spokesperson Hermione Coleman said it showed that you didn’t have to spend much to be a winner.

“Most of our Division One winners win on a Slikpik 12 or 18, both of which cost under $20,” she said.

“This weekend we’ve got our $20 million Saturday Lotto Superdraw, and a great way to play is to get together in a syndicate to share the cost, and then hopefully the joy.”

Tickets are available until 6pm Saturday from Lotterywest in-store, online or via the app.
