Perth workmates claim $4.2 million Lotto win

Lotto luck has struck for 15 Perth workmates whose weekly syndicate has delivered them a $4.2 million windfall after playing together for more than 10 years.

Each member of the syndicate will collect almost $285,000.

The syndicate said the win could not have come at a better time after more than half the members had been made redundant.

“It was starting to look pretty tough financially for quite a few of us,” one member said.

“We have school fees, mortgages and just your day-to-day bills to pay so this couldn’t have come at a more perfect time,” the member added.

The coordinator of the syndicate said when she first heard a Division 1 winner had been sold at the same Yokine outlet she’d purchased the ticket from, she was almost certain it wasn’t them.

“I was sure we didn’t have one of the winning numbers and thought to myself those ‘lucky buggers’,” the woman said.

“It wasn’t until I checked my ticket in-store that I realised we were the lucky buggers,” she added.

The $4.2 million winning ticket was sold from Flinders Square Lucky Lotto in Yokine and was the nation’s only Division 1 winner in the weekend’s Saturday Lotto draw.

WA players will have another chance to win big tonight when a $30 million OZ Lotto jackpot goes up for grabs.

Lotterywest spokesperson Pina Compagnone said the game had been jackpotting across the last four weeks.

“There’s certainly a lot of excitement surrounding our State today – not only do we have 15 very happy winners from the weekend’s syndicate win butwe also have jackpot fever rising,” Ms Compagnone said.

According to Lotterywest almost 300,000 tickets across WA are expected to be purchased ahead of tonight’s draw.

“While we hope to see a WA winner take it home again tonight, the great news is that almost a third of what players spend on tickets will be returned to help the WA community,” Ms Compagnone added.

Tickets for tonight’s $30 million OZ Lotto jackpot are on sale until 6pm from Lotterywest in-store, via Play Online or by downloading the app.
