Carnarvon winner didn’t know he had $588,000 in his pocket

The owner of a Carnarvon Saturday Lotto ticket worth almost $588,000 has finally come forward.

A week went by before the Carnarvon man in his 50s realised that he had the winning ticket.

Even then, he didn’t believe his luck.

“I’d been walking around all bloody week with a Division One ticket in my pocket,” he said.

“I went through the app to see if I had the wrong week, I even called my mum to check the numbers.

“It’s just unbelievable, words really can’t describe this.”

He waited until a planned trip to Perth to claim the prize from the November 30 draw.

He says a series of fortunate events lead to him buying the winning Slikpik 18 from Carnarvon Lottery News and Gifts.

He first decided to pick up a ticket after being held up in a line at another store.

“I ended up winning four numbers on that ticket, which I then used to buy this ticket,” he said.

Lotterywest spokesperson Jennie Fitzhardinge said there’s still plenty of time for WA winners to end the year on a high note, or get a last-minute Christmas gift.

“This weekend’s $30 million Megadraw is the biggest Saturday Lotto draw for 2019,” Ms Fitzhardinge said.

“Why not buy a ticket for that friend or family member who is hard to buy for?”

Tickets for the Megadraw are on sale in store and online until 6pm, Saturday 28 December with the busiest hour of sales expected to be Saturday 11am-12pm.

Thanks to the people who play Lotterywest games, the benefits flow onto hundreds of not for profit organisations throughout WA.

Players are encouraged to play responsibly.
