COVID-19 Relief Fund

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the State Government, through Lotterywest, has allocated all profits of the Lottery (up to $159 million) directly into the newly created COVID-19 Relief Fund.

This Fund is assisting the Western Australian community through COVID-19 and responding to the impacts of the crisis on individual and community wellbeing through targeted and impactful community grants.

The focus is community directed and avoids duplication of Government services. Grants will remain as one-off, time limited investments.

Lotterywest’s Community Investment Framework, launched in 2019, underpins the delivery of the COVID-19 Relief Fund. More information on the Community Investment Framework can be found below.

We understand that needs are changing

The COVID-19 Relief Fund aims to be responsive to community needs. That’s why we’re taking a phased approach to implementation.

The first phase of the Fund prioritised addressing the immediate hardship being experienced by individuals and community organisations.

The second phase focussed on three grant programs designed to provide support to eligible organisations (e.g. not-for-profit organisations and local government authorities) to assist individuals experiencing hardship; communities wanting to reconnect; and organisations to become stronger for the future.

Between March 2020 and December 2020, we’re proud to have supported:

We’re now in the third phase of our COVID-19 Relief Fund

Western Australia’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic has been world leading. As we move into Phase 3 of the COVID-19 Relief Fund the focus is on supporting recovery for our communities and economy.

A broader recovery focus

To do this, we are continuing the Supporting the Most Vulnerable, Building Community and Strengthening and Adapting grant programs with a broader scope to fund initiatives which support recovery aligned to the key outcomes of these grant programs.

More targeted priorities within grant programs

The number of Expressions of Interest and applications to the COVID-19 Relief Fund has been unprecedented. To manage this, we will be assessing proposals based on more targeted priorities within each grant program.

We will be delivering these grant programs through a mixture of open applications, an Expression of Interest (EOI) process, applications by invitation and a grant round. Click here to see the overview of the current and upcoming programs and how we will roll these out over the remainder of the 2020-21 financial year.

Community Investment Framework

The Community Investment Framework is Lotterywest and Healthway’s grant making strategy that was in operation before creation of the COVID-19 Relief Fund.

This Framework sets out how both organisations have been focussing on outcomes through five key priority areas to build a better and a healthier WA.

The Framework underpins the delivery of the COVID-19 Relief Fund.
