Westminster battler claims $1.4 million Lotto win

A self-proclaimed battler from Westminster has today come forward to claim more than $1.4 million in prize money following last week’s Saturday Lotto Superdraw.

The winning ticket was sold at Westminster Pharmacy and News and was one of three Division 1 tickets produced by Western Australia.

Flanked by his wife, the winner said the couple hadn’t slept in days after learning of their win.

“It’s taken us a while to get here because we didn’t quite believe it at first,” the man said.

“We haven’t celebrated, we haven’t told anyone and we haven’t slept,” he laughed.

The man said he decided to purchase the winning ticket on a whim, even choosing his own numbers for the first time.

“I’d love to tell you there was some special formula but the truth is I picked six numbers at random and crossed my fingers,” he said.

“I couldn’t tell you what they were but I’m bloody glad I chose them,” he added.

Lotterywest spokeswoman Chloe Lawler said the organisation was still waiting to hear from the two remaining instant millionaires.

“Two of our Division 1 tickets from the Saturday Superdraw remain unclaimed,” Ms Lawler said.

“They were sold at Medical Centre News and Lotteries in Nedlands and Mandurah Greenfields Newsagency and are worth a collective $2.8 million,” she added.

Ms Lawler said the Division 1 wins brought the State’s total to 30 for 2017 with punters getting another chance to win big ahead of tonight’s $15 million OZ Lotto jackpot.

“If our luck so far this year is any indication, I’d encourage everyone to go out and grab a ticket in tonight’s draw,” she said.

“Players will also have a chance to double their winnings in Divisions 2-6 on Wednesday night,” she added.

Tickets are available until draw day in-store, through Play Online or by downloading the Lotterywest app.
