West Perth's central buzz

Tandy and Chris Bozich (pictured far left and right) have owned and operated West Perth News for the last three years, with the business in the CBD, staying in the family since the early 1960s.

They’re also still the local newspaper delivery agents for West Perth.

Joe Eaton, Chris’s Grandfather, opened the newsagent from 1962 until 1985, where it was then taken over by his Chris’s parents, Ron and Darn Bozich, until 2018.

Chris has been working full time in the bustling store since 1988, along with his staff member, Narelle (pictured centre), who has joined him for 15 of those years. Through their time, they’ve sold an amazing seven Division One Lotto tickets and four Top Prize Scratch’n’Win tickets and say they often spot locals such as Senator Michaelia Cash, shopping in their store. While they acknowledge it has been a challenging year due to the pandemic as a central location, they continue to smile and think positively to get them through.

“Being part of the CBD has been a challenge during the COVId-19 lockdowns but we’re grateful for the local residents who have supported us during these times,” said Tandy.

They'll be upgrading their Lotterywest shopfit over the coming months – we can’t wait to see their fresh new look!

From Saturday 11 September to 18 September it’s National Newsagent Week, an opportunity for us to recognise the contribution newsagents make to our community. This years theme is Your Newsagent, Your Community Heartbeat which perfectly represents newsagents, as an essential service to all West Aussies.
