Welcome to the network

Meet Tony and Marie, who are the new owners of Augusta Newsagency. The couple has worked together for over the 20 years, and recently celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary!

“We’ve worked together for 20 plus years, and we haven't killed each other yet! It has its challenges at times, but we just get on with it,” said Marie.

They decided to set up shop in Augusta after wanting to get away from the city rat race and become more community focussed. Since they first started operating the business in September, they said that they have learnt a lot.

“It’s definitely not what we expected, however now that two months has passed we’re feeling more comfortable with our decision.

“Our training has fallen into place and it feels like second nature – we know what we are doing…well sometimes,” they said.

As well as offering newspapers and stationery, they have a small range of giftware and are an information hub for tourists – they also run the Licensed Post Office. The couple are looking forward to seeing tourists having a lovely time in Augusta over Christmas, but the locals have warned them, it gets busy.

“The locals keep saying we're not going to know what hit us when Christmas comes. This sounds daunting but we’re excited to see how we go.

“We’re thinking of having a lovely display in the front window and maybe offering customers a 10% off voucher,” they said.

They don’t have a lot of spare time, but you may spot them exploring the town and its surrounds on a Sunday afternoon.

Welcome to the network Tony and Marie. We look forward to working with you and wish you all the best for the upcoming festive season!
