Retired couple’s numbers win them $1 million

A retired southern suburbs couple has claimed their Division One prize from Saturday Lotto worth over $1 million.

The ticket, sold at Atwell Newsagency, was one of two Division One winners in WA in last weekend’s draw.

The couple in their 60s have been playing the same numbers – the birthdays of their children and grandchildren – for 18 months.

The woman, who checked the ticket on draw night, was shocked once she realised she had the six winning numbers.

“I was just so shocked, I said to my husband I’ve got all six numbers!” she said.

His response, “Don’t be stupid, show me the ticket.”

After giving him the wrong ticket first, then the winning ticket, the husband was gobsmacked.

“I started crying and he started to pace about the house, we got no sleep that night,” she said.

The couple said the $1 million will change their lives and they plan on celebrating with family very soon.

Meanwhile, WA’s first millionaire for 2022 has claimed his Division One Wednesday Lotto prize of $1 million from a draw held on 5 January.

However, he won’t be celebrating for a couple of weeks after his boss said he still had to front up to work.

The man is due to fly to work in the coming days, but called his boss asking if he could delay it by a week.

“I called him up and asked if I could come up next week because I’ve won Lotto, he said no mate, I said mate, I’ve just won a million dollars! And he didn’t care,” he laughed.

The winner said he would help his children out and would continue to work.
