Motion by the Ocean Inc has added a sixth trishaw to its fleet which provides free bike rides
every day to seniors and those less mobile.
Thanks to a Lotterywest grant, the organisation has been able to expand its trishaw fleet and
purchase a new vehicle, which will support its ‘Cycling Without Age Sorrento’ program.
A trishaw is a three-wheeled bicycle powered by a volunteer cyclist and usually carries two passengers.
Motion by the Ocean Inc’s trishaws provide rides along the coast lasting between 45 and 90 minutes.
The $66,500 grant will enable the organisation to continue its daily service and expand its existing fleet of five vehicles.
This enhancement will make it easier for volunteers to participate and will allow the organization to provide better service along its coastal route.
Motion by the Ocean Inc CEO and founder Alanagh Godderidge said the new vehicle would also make services more reliable for volunteers and beneficiaries.
“We’re so excited to expand our fleet with our sixth trishaw, aligning with our strategic goal of
systematically upgrading our assets,” Ms Godderidge said.
"Having a new vehicle offers a safe and dependable transportation option.
“This upgrade improves volunteer engagement and allows us better access to our bike
mechanics, as we can now load two trishaws at the same time.”
Lotterywest CEO Colin Smith said Motion by the Ocean Inc’s work demonstrated how simple
ideas could positively impact the lives of many within the community.
“Lotterywest supports an inclusive and thriving community, which is about every member of the
community, regardless of their ability, enjoying this great place we call home,” Mr Smith said.
“We are proud to help Motion by the Ocean expand its trishaw fleet and improve its
transportation options, allowing them to keep offering their services daily and provide people
with the chance to connect.”
