University student picks up $1 million on first ever Lotto ticket

Lobster and Guinness are now part of a university students plans after discovering the first Lotto ticket he’s ever purchased turned into $1 million.

The man in his 30’s said he ignored his mates’ advice to not buy the Monday Lotto ticket, in last night’s draw, from Media Lottery Centre & News in Cannington.

“My friend told me not to buy one as I never have any luck,” he said.

“I checked my ticket at home that night and when I realised I’d won, I literally slapped myself because I thought I was dreaming.”

The student said he planned to celebrate his win with a Lobster and some Guinness in the spirit of St Patrick’s Day.

Lotterywest spokesperson Pina Compagnone said this player is proof a life changing win can happen to anyone.

“The State has now produced 20 Division One winners so far this year and we would love to see another local player take out a share in Thursday’s $60 million Powerball jackpot,” she said.

“The draw is an opportunity to support your local retailer by buying a ticket for a chance to claim a life changing prize.”

One of the most popular ticket entries for this week’s jackpot was a Powerpik 7 which automatically gives players the winning Powerball.

To win Powerball, players need the seven winning numbers from Barrel A, along with the winning Powerball from Barrel B.

Players can also stay in the game with ‘advance play’ and enter a draw up to nine weeks in advance.

Tickets for this Thursday’s $60 million Powerball jackpot are available until 6pm draw day from Lotterywest in-store, online or through the app.

Support for the draw has already helped Lotterywest to raise over $6 million for the WA community, with Thursday’s night’s draw expected to raise a further $3 million.
