Cockburn woman mistakes prize by almost six figures

A Cockburn woman has misjudged her Scratch‘n’Win prize by $98,000, but in the best way possible.

During a chat with her daughter on the phone, the conversation was abruptly cut short after noticing she had scratched an unusual number of words on her $10 Mega Wordplay game from Southlake Newsagency.

“I was on the phone to my daughter, and I had to tell her to hang on for a second, I think I’ve won $2,000,” the woman in her 40’s said.

“But then, I realised I missed a word and that the prize was actually $100,000.”

Lotterywest spokesperson James Mooney said WA players have shared in more than $5.6 million in Top Prize wins for 2022.

“It’s fantastic to see our Scratch‘n’Win top prize players take home winnings ranging from $5,000 to $300,000,” he said.

“With Christmas less than two weeks away, a Scratch‘n’Win gift pack might just be the ideal gift for the family member who is hard to buy for.

“Our $40 million Megadraw, set for New Year’s Eve, is also not too far away, so make sure you grab your ticket for a chance to start 2023 with a life changing prize.”

Lotterywest has produced a record-breaking return to the WA community for the second year in a row with more than$1 billion going back to WA in grants and prizes in the last financial year.

Tickets are available until 6pm draw day from Lotterywest in-store, online or via the app.
