Broome Senior High School Bush Ranger Cadets

The Broome Senior High School Bush Ranger Cadet Program provides young people with opportunities to develop conservation skills, connect with culture and Country, and build confidence through hands-on environmental experiences.

A $15,000 grant supported a cadet camp on the Dampier Peninsula, enabling young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, including participants with diverse abilities, to take part in an inclusive on-Country experience.

The camp strengthened ranger skills while creating a rare opportunity for cadets to share culture and language, including Yawuru, Bardi, Yolngu and Auslan.

Cadet Kaylee Archibald said the program helped her build confidence and strengthen connections with others: "When I first joined Bush Rangers I wasn't very social, so it helped me socialise, communicate a bit more and know more about people, and I've learnt how to care for Country and look after the land."

That's the difference a grant makes!
