Winning in the Wheatbelt

A husband and wife from WA’s south east have come forward as one of Saturday Lotto’s Division One winners.

The winning $573,863 ticket was bought from The Lucky Charm in Joondalup on a Slikpik 18 game.

While the couple, who live in the Wheatbelt, said they were regular Saturday Lotto players with an online membership account, this purchase was bought “on a whim”.

“We’ve always felt that you’ve got to be in it to win it,” the wife said.

“I’ve always thought that I’m pretty unlucky but now I think I’m the luckiest person alive.”

The wife, a full-time foster child carer, said she and her husband had been looking at houses to be closer to their children’s northern suburbs school.

“We’ve been looking for a while and this way we can be mortgage free,” she said.

“We’d also like to donate something to the kids’ school to help in some way.”

The Lucky Charm owner Spyros Scafidas said it was always a momentous occasion to share in other people’s joy.

“It’s life changing and we all get very excited,” he said.

“With the $20 million Superdraw and Mother’s Day this Sunday we have lots of promotional packs for people to put in a card for Mum.”

Lotterywest spokesperson Hermione Coleman said Superdraw had produced 5 Division One winners in WA this financial year.

“Superdraw is such a popular game and with Mother’s Day so close, it really does make the ideal gift,” she said.

Tickets are available until 6pm draw day from Lotterywest in-store, online or via the app.

Players are encouraged to play responsibly and spend only what they can afford.
