WA winner swims into $200,000

A Gosnells man won’t have to worry about cleaning his pool after his $10 Super Triple Scratch ‘n’ Win ticket turned into $200,000.

The man, in his 70s, went to purchase chlorine, but after discovering the shop was closed decided to buy a scratchie.

“I scratched it straight away,” he said.

“I went back into the shop and said to the retailer, “I don’t think you will be able to pay me for this one”.

“I was more calm than the retailer, she started to cry.

“I already knew it was going to be a good weekend as it had rained, so I didn’t need to water the garden.”

He said the ticket, from Corfield News in Gosnells, would go towards looking after his wife and himself in their twilight years.

Lotterywest spokesperson Hermione Coleman said the chance to interview winners never gets old.

“We get to speak to so many winners from different backgrounds and situations,” Ms Coleman said.

“We regularly hear winners share their plans of buying a new car or paying off their mortgage, and it’s especially nice when we hear they are going to look after loved ones.”
