Syndicates a winning secret

Lotterywest retailer Fred Geb is a “Syndicate Whisperer” who has unlocked some secrets to players winning more, more often.

And with a $30 million prize up for grabs in tonight’s Powerball and another $20 million on offer on May 11’s Superdraw Saturday, his tips are just in time.

The Forrestfield Marketplace News owner sells more syndicate entries than any other retailer in WA for one good reason.

“We suggest syndicates to all of our customers because your chances of winning are a lot greater and you win a lot more,” Mr Geb said.

All his syndicates are built around Systems tickets which increase a player’s chances of winning by giving them multiple entries in the draw, with multiple combinations of the same numbers.

“Even if you didn’t win Division One, Systems tickets mean that you get paid multiple times if you win in the other divisions,” Fred said.

“Last month for example we sold a System 12 entry in OZ Lotto that paid out $14,440 on a lower division prize. A single game entry would have only paid $368.

“We have a lot of loyal players because every couple of weeks they will win something.”

Lotterywest spokesperson Jennie Fitzhardinge said that the vast majority of prizes paid out to WA players was for prizes in divisions two to nine.

“The Division One winners naturally grab the headlines, but the other divisions are the real quiet achievers for Lotterywest players,” Ms Fitzhardinge said.

“Last financial year we paid $463 million to WA winners and $320 million of that went to people who didn’t win Division One.”

Syndicates are also an effective way to reduce the cost of playing.

“We encourage all Lotterywest players to play responsibly,” Ms Fitzhardinge said.

“By sharing the cost of a high-value ticket with others, you can keep playing at a fun, affordable level, while increasing your chances of winning.

“It can be daunting to work out what offers the best value for you, so talk to your local Lotterywest retailer about what syndicates they have on offer – they can even help you set up your own syndicate.”

Tickets are available until 6pm draw day from Lotterywest in-store, online or via the app. Players are encouraged to play responsibly and spend only what they can afford.
