Missing words turn into $75,000

For most it’s not nice to be told you’re wrong, but for one Western Australian couple an exception was made.

A Beckenham couple’s $20 joy soon turned into a $75,000 surprise, thanks to a Scratch’n’Win ticket.

The couple failed to notice their $5 Super Word Play ticket, from Thornlie Square Newspower, had more words than they thought.

“We were happy we won $20,” the winner said.

“The retailer took me out the back, I thought I had done something wrong, but he told me I had won $75,000.

“My knees were shaking.”

The win follows a stellar week for WA, with three Division One winning tickets, each worth $1.8 million, sold in last Saturday’s Superdraw.

Lotterywest spokesperson Hermione Coleman said attention has now turned to this weekend’s special $10 million Saturday Lotto event.

“The Division One prize pool has been doubled from an estimated $5 million for this special event,” she said.

“Let’s hope our State’s tally of Division One winners for the year, already at 29, grows even higher following the draw.”

Thanks to those who play Lotterywest games, all available profits support the WA community through our grants program.
