A Mandurah man thought something was wrong after being taken into the back room of his local newsagency following a curious message that popped up when scanning his Saturday Lotto ticket.
His fears turned to celebration after discovering the retailer from Nextra Forum West Newsagency wanted to discreetly tell him he was the winner of a $518,364 prize.
The ticket was one of two Saturday Lotto Division One wins from the weekend and was the second Division One prize in the space of a week for Nextra Forum West Newsagency.
“I went from thinking ‘oh no what have I done’ to absolute joy,” the man in his 50’s said.
“I never win anything, but this news now opens up so many doors.
“A new car, hey even a new haircut.”
Lotterywest spokesperson James Mooney said 47 Western Australian tickets have matched the numbers to a Division One prize this year, sharing in more than $63.7 million.
“Our retailers do a wonderful job making sure the privacy of players is the top priority when they come across a life changing win,” he said.
“It’s also thanks to the efforts of WA players and retailers that Lotterywest can raise vital funds for the WA community.”
This year Lotterywest provided a $70,000 grant to support Uniting Outreach Mandurah’s crisis and emergency relief which is led by Uniting Church in Australia Property Trust (WA).
The next chance for WA players to join the millionaire’s list is tonight’s $3 million OZ Lotto draw.
Tickets are available until 6pm in-store, online or via the Lotterywest App.
