Hump day treat: Albany makes a mid-week millionaire

Last night’s Wednesday Lotto draw has delivered Western Australia’s 18th Division One winner so far this year, with Plaza Lotteries in Albany producing a $1 million winning ticket.

Owner of Plaza Lotteries, Wayne Walczak, was ecstatic to have sold his first million dollar ticket, having owned the store just eight months.

“We’re over the moon with the news!” he said.

“I bet the winner is quite excited and nervous, but we can’t wait to meet them to assist them in collecting their prize.”

“I’m sure any of our locals wouldn’t mind the long drive up to become a millionaire,” he joked.

Lotterywest spokesperson Hermione Coleman said anticipation had set in at Lotterywest HQ for the regional winner to make their long journey.

“The winner could be making the five hour drive as we speak,” she said.

“I’d encourage anyone that bought a ticket from Plaza Lotteries to quickly check their numbers.”

The $1 million windfall comes just one week after last Wednesday Lotto saw a retired couple win a cool $1 million from Eaton Fair Lottery Centre and News in Eaton.

The couple, from Bunbury, said a quick nip into Woolies for some bleach resulted in an unexpected Lotto buy.

When you play Lotterywest games, the community wins. Over the past 12 months Lotterywest has supported 11 local organisations in Albany with more than $345,000 - including more than $100,000 to the organisation Great Southern Centre for Outdoor Recreation Excellence to enhance recreational opportunities in the Great Southern.
