Western Australia's premier Diwali event, the Diwali Mela, will take place this weekend (November 7-8) at Claremont Showgrounds, as part of WA's ongoing celebrations of the Indian festival.
Also known as the Festival of Lights, Diwali is an Indian cultural and religious festival celebrated with dazzling displays of dancing, fireworks and food. People mark the celebration by wearing their finest clothes, illuminating their houses and giving thanks to deities for prosperity and wealth.
Diwali Mela, presented by LiveLighter, is proudly supported by the McGowan Government with grants of $50,000 from Lotterywest, $45,000 from Healthway and $20,000 from the Office of Multicultural Interests.
