Breakfast plans stall $790,000 discovery

An impromptu breakfast outing thwarted one couple’s discovery that they were hundreds of thousands dollars richer.

From Karratha, the couple overlooked their Saturday Lotto prize of more than $790,000 for almost three months.

The Slikpik 25, sold from Karratha Woolworths in May, was left unclaimed until August.

“I buy the tickets and stick them under my wife’s keyboard to check,” one of the winners said.

“We had a bunch of tickets but missed heading to the Lotterywest retailer to check them because we went out for breakfast instead.”

As the months ticked by the couple had heard about the unclaimed prize bought in May, prompting them to review their tickets.

They said they planned to keep working, but would now be able to buy their local dream home and enjoy a vacation.

Lotterywest spokesperson Hermione Coleman said it was wonderful to see the ticket finally claimed.

“The couple were not registered so we were unable to contact them before hand,” Ms Coleman said.

“Hopefully we can add some more Division One winners to our list this week with more than $90 million dollars in prizes across three of our games.

“Tuesday’s OZ Lotto has jackpotted to $10 million, Powerball is at $60 million, and Saturday’s Superdraw is set at $20 million.”

Tickets for all draws are available until 6pm the date of the draw from Lotterywest in-store, online or through the app.
