A winner's tale

How would you celebrate a big win on Lotto? Champagne, oysters?

With OZ Lotto at $50 million next week it’s a relevant question. One that we all, at some point, have thought about.

Here are Lotterywest’s Top Five Quirky WA Winner Stories on how they celebrated their Lotto wins.

  • A Bunbury grandmother who won $50,000 on a $3 Word Play scratchie said the first thing she would do was get herself a new pair of teeth (dentures)
  • A $60 handbag was top of a wish-list for a $15 million OZ Lotto winner
  • A tradie who won $3 million Division One Lotto prize in Superdraw bought a sausage roll to celebrate when he found out he’d won.
  • A family of five celebrated their $1.7 million Saturday Lotto Megadraw win with champagne and Chinese takeaway
  •  A man who won $10 million in OZ Lotto said he would still drive the same car

Lotterywest spokesperson Hermione Coleman said it was incredibly heartening to see such humble winners in the winner’s room.

“Lots of winners tell us they are going to give donations to their favourite charity or donate to their church, or children’s school,” she said.

“The funniest thing that usually happens, though, is that they are usually rushing to get out of the room because they are worried they’ll get a parking fine.”

WA has had 27 Division One winners so far this year sharing in more than $40 million worth of prize money.

Next week is a $70 million week of jackpots with OZ Lotto at $50 million and Powerball at $20 million.

OZ Lotto tickets are available until 6pm on draw day from Lotterywest in-store, online or via the app.
