Western Australia’s biggest Powerball wins to date

As players across Western Australia grab a ticket for Thursday’s $150 million Powerball draw, Lotterywest has looked back on the State’s record wins.

The three biggest WA Lotto wins on record were all thanks to Powerball.

All three winning tickets were purchased as part of syndicates, meaning the prize was shared among a group of people.

Below are the details of WA’s more significant Lotto wins to date.

55 women celebrate $80 million Powerball prize

In December 2021, a group of 55 women from a northern suburbs gym claimed the entire Division One Powerball jackpot, worth $80 million.

The women from Curves, a ladies-only gym in Beldon, each put in $5 for their share of the Slikpik 50 winning ticket sold from Beaumaris News and Post in Ocean Reef.

“Since COVID-19 the gym has been really struggling, and a lot of the ladies at the gym are real Aussie battlers and come here as an outlet,” the winner said.

“We’re a real community and this is going to be life-changing for every single one of us.

“The future is looking so bright.”

Regional syndicate scoops $63 million share of Powerball jackpot

February 2022 saw a retail syndicate from Kalgoorlie share the $120 million Division One prize with another winning ticket from New South Wales.

The syndicate scored a prize of more than $63 million, with some of the ticket holders jetting into Lotterywest HQ the following day to claim their share.

One of the winners, a school worker and mum, had already walked her dog, chatted with a neighbour and been to the newsagents before she jumped on a flight to be at Lotterywest before 11am that day.

Another couple who had set off from Kalgoorlie at 6am for the drive to Perth said their win had taken a huge weight off their shoulders.

Boulder syndicate takes home $53 million share of Powerball jackpot

A record-breaking Powerball draw in October 2022 saw a group of 19 work mates share in the $160 million jackpot.

Their ticket, which was sold from Boulder Newsagency, was one of three across the nation each winning more than $53 million.

Initially the group thought they had won Division Two and were in disbelief when the ticket holder announced their ticket was a Division One winner.

“He’s a big joker, so no one believed him.”

“It took a bit of convincing before it started to sink in that we’d won,” a group member said.

The group, who work together in Boulder, have a range of plans for their winnings, including sharing it with family, early retirement, holidays and purchasing a caravan.

Lotterywest Acting CEO Jeremy Hubble said if a WA player takes out the entire $150 million jackpot this week, it would set a new Australian record.

“This week’s draw is a great opportunity for players to join a syndicate, which means they can share the cost of a ticket and potentially share the joy of a win,” Mr Hubble said.

Players can head in-store to create a syndicate with family, friends or workmates, or alternatively ask your local retailer about the types of syndicates you can join.

Tickets for Powerball’s $150 million jackpot are available until 6pm Thursday, in-store, online and via the Lotterywest App.
