A woman in her 30s is celebrating a $300,000 Top Prize scratchie win thanks to attempting to escape the heatwave with a trip to an air-conditioned shopping centre.
The winner, from the northern suburbs, scored the $300,000 prize on a $20 Christmas Countdown scratchie.
In an attempt to beat the heat, the woman visited Karrinyup shopping centre where she purchased the ticket from Full Hand Lottery Centre.
“I thought an air-conditioned shopping centre was a great day trip in this weather,” she said.
“It turned out to be a very good choice.
“As soon as I saw I had won I was so excited, I put the kids in the car and came straight to Lotterywest HQ.”
The player plans to use her winnings to pay for her children’s braces and upgrade her car.
Lotterywest spokesperson Zoe Wender said thanks to Scratch’n’Win games last year, 47 WA players won Top Prizes worth a combined $4.67 million.
“Last year, Scratch’n’Win ticket sales resulted in almost $45 million raised for Lotterywest’s grants program,” she said.
“Lotterywest grants support communities across WA, including a grant of $315,575 to the Spiers Centre, to deliver crisis and emergency relief across the Cities of Joondalup, Wanneroo and Stirling.”
The next chance for WA players to win big is in Tuesday’s $70 million OZ Lotto draw, which is the biggest jackpot offered so far this year.
“If one person takes home the entire $70 million prize, they’ll become OZ Lotto’s biggest individual lottery winner,” she said.
Tickets are available until 6pm on draw day in-store, online and via the Lotterywest App.
