This Easter break get the kids outside and visit a nature playground to celebrate Nature Play Week. Committed to supporting organisations in promoting the natural environment as a place to play, imagine and explore, Lotterywest has supported a number of nature playgrounds for Western Australia’s youth.
Early 2020 saw Lotterywest support the Shire of Harvey with the construction of a foreshore play space in Australind, Karragarup Play Space. Two years on, and the playground has increased community participation and encouraged engagement with the cultural and natural heritage of the area.
Karragarup Play Space, meaning ‘Place of Crabs’ in Wardandi Noongar language, features a balancing rope course, crustacean discovery area, mangrove tree maze, water misting feature and innovative lighting.
With the support of Lotterywest, the Quairading community is also set to benefit from a nature playground with the development of the Kwirrading Koort Community Park currently underway. The playground aims to promote community participation in social and recreational activities in an outdoor setting.
The Park will incorporate multi-aged play equipment designed to stimulate more active lifestyles in the Quairading community.
Lotterywest and Healthway Chief Executive Officer, Ralph Addis said giving back to the community is at the heart of the organisation.
“Encouraging WA’s youth to engage with the natural environment is extremely important and Lotterywest is honoured to be able to play its part in contributing to a better WA,” he said.
“Through Lotterywest supported nature playgrounds, we hope to improve the health of future generations.”
Lotterywest is the only lottery in Australia where all profits are returned back to the community via its grants program. Thanks to the people who play Lotterywest games the organisation is able to support grassroots and community initiatives that make WA a great place to live.
