Better than chocolate – Family celebrate Easter holidays with Lotto win

A Rivervale grandmother who says she’s the ‘lucky charm’ of her family has lived up to her name coming forward as Western Australia’s latest Saturday Lotto winner.

Each year her family pool their money for their own lady luck to purchase Lotterywest games over the year, with the mantra if anyone is going to win it will be her.

“Mum has always been the lucky one in the family,” the winner’s son said.

The winning ticket was bought at Here’s Luck Lottery Centre in Belmont Forum, worth more than $574,000.

The woman in her 80s will share her new-found fortune with family and plans to announce the news during a family dinner this coming Easter weekend.

“I think the news of the win will be a little bit more exciting than Easter eggs for the family,” she said.

“I’ve won smaller amounts over the years, but never the big one.”

Lotterywest Spokesperson James Mooney said it was heart-warming to know the win would bring joy to the winner’s family during the Easter break.

“It never gets old to see a family share in the wonderful news that they’ve won,” he said.

"There’s still time for WA players to win big this week, with Thursday’s Powerball jackpotting to $12 million.

“When Western Australian’s play Lotterywest games, the benefits flow onto our public hospitals, sports, the arts and community groups.”

In the past 12 months Cloverdale has received more than $400,000 in Lotterywest grants, including $122,725 towards equipment for social and recreational opportunities for the Federation of Western Australian Police and Community Youth Centres.
