Workplace twist gives lucky number win

The two-week search for Marmion’s missing Saturday Lotto winner has ended with a local northern suburbs couple coming forward.

For more than 30 years the duo selected their own numbers, their dedication paying off with a $579 988 Division One win.

Their ‘special numbers’ included anniversaries and birthdays, but it was a workplace twist which steered the couple in their 50s to success.

“We first met in the same workplace. We worked on different levels, so we used our floor numbers to finish off our combination,” one of the winners said.

“When I checked my ticket at the store it was quite busy and the clerk was being rather coy with me.

“I thought he was acting strangely, however now I realise he was doing me a favour in not drawing attention to me.”

Jay Patel from Marmion Post and Newsagency said the store was delighted to sell the lucky ticket.

“It’s been more than 20 years since we’ve had a Division One winner, so it’s nice to see Marmion has a bit of luck behind it now,” Mr Patel said.

Thanks to local Western Australian players Lotterywest has been able to provide a $5,000 grant towards recreation equipment for the Marmion-Warwick Playgroup.

WA players still have another chance to win big this week with tonight’s $15 million OZ Lotto draw. Tickets are available until 6pm from Lotterywest in-store, online or via the app.
