WA OZ Lotto winner saves it for a rainy day

A Parmelia man’s efforts to avoid being drenched in Perth’s storm has guided him to an OZ Lotto Division One prize of almost $2.5 million.

The regular OZ Lotto player realised he’d forgotten to buy a ticket for Tuesday’s draw, however, didn’t want to battle the outside elements.

“I didn’t want to get wet,” the man in his 60’s said.

“I knew there was a retailer in Wellard that would be sheltered so I thought I’d go there.”

It was the first time he’d bought a ticket from Wellard Square News and Gifts, his Slikpik 18 matching the numbers 22, 30, 24, 12, 5, 3 and 27.

“All my family is in Queensland, so this is the time to retire and to see family,” he said.

Lotterywest spokesperson Hermione Coleman said all eyes were now on tonight’s $15 million Powerball draw.

“It’s fantastic to welcome our first OZ Lotto Division One winner for 2020,” Ms Coleman said.

“We’re hoping we can also celebrate our first Western Australian Powerball winner from tonight’s draw.

All available profits from Lotterywest tickets contribute to the COVID-19 Relief Fund which will help those in the community impacted.
